Removing/shutting stale internet explorer?



               
I'm trying to download a program to my computer, but during the setup I get a eyeshade that says to first close internet explorer to verbs.... problem is internet explorer isn't open.

* I've I hit control+alt+delete, clicked processes, clicked on IEXPLORER.EXE, and clicked terminate process. and end process tree. problem is it merely appears immediatly at the top of the list again.

* I tried deleteing it completly, after i get a prompt that say IEXPLORER.EXE can not be deleted:access denied.

* I go to control panel, add or remove programs, set program access and default, and made sure there wasn't any checks within the boxes next to internet explorer.

..But the program I'm trying to install still say that it's open.. What do i do?

P.S. I'm pretty sure I enjoy a virus.. I get pop-ups beneath IE all the time.


Answers:    I suggest that you start your PC is safemode which would prevent the computer from access the internet. Hopefully you can thing install your program in need IE being within the way.

After to be precise done (if it works), ditch IE and install FireFox.
