Internet Explorer Problem - The page cannot be displayed...?

I have AT&T Yahoo! DSL. I do not use the AT&T software, as I strictly use Internet Explorer 6 as my browser. In addition, I have AOL, at it appears that it connects ok...so I'm wondering if there is something that I can do to repair/fix IE? Everything else seems to work fine, and I must have Internet Access, or else I wouldn't be able to connect to AOL and AIM. Any ideas or suggestions?

If message still says: The page cannot be displayed.
Try clearing out the address field and type in a web page, such as; yahoo.com or google.com.

If 'The page cannot be displayed.' message returns, try rebooting your modem.

You can also configure AOL to never dial a connection, by changing setting to 'Broadband Connection Type' in AOL.
either:

1). the page has timed out
2). the server is down
3). the URL you entered is wrong

should be one of them
You maybe able to re-install it otherwise try deleting your cookies and temp Internet files. Also you could try Firefox see if that has the same problem.
Just to clarify, it sounds as though you are trying to say that the AOL software is able to connect through your AT&T Yahoo! DSL, but whenever you try to open up IE6, it gives you a page that says "This page cannot be displayed.."?

If this is the case, what you may want to try the following:
Open IE6.
- Click on "Tools"
- Click on "Internet Options"
- Click on the "Connections" tab at the top
- Under the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network Settings", click on each listing there and click the "Remove" button on the right side. Once you do this, there should be nothing listed in that box.
- Look below where is says "Local Area Network (LAN) settings and click on the button that says "LAN Settings". Make sure that NONE of the boxes are checked. Once that is done, click "OK" down below.
- Now click "OK" once more and you should now be back at the IE6 page. Go ahead and close IE6 and reopen it. You should now be connected.

- If the above doesn't work, it would be a good idea to set all of the IE6 back to their defaults. To do this, go back to the "Internet Options" as described above. Once that window is open, click on the "Security" Tab. Click on the "Reset all zones to default level" button at the bottom. Next, click on the "Privacy" tab and make sure that the "Default" tab IS greyed out. If not, click on it so it is.
Now click on the "Advanced" tab at the top. Twords the bottom should be a button that says "Restore Advanced Settings". Go ahead and click that. Once you do, click "OK" on the bottom, close IE6 and reopen it.

If you are still having problems connecting to the internet using IE6, make sure you are in fact connecting to the internet by typing "cmd", without " ", in the run box under the "Start" menu. Once that is open, type "ping www.cnet.com", again without " ", and press the Enter key on your keyboard. Some information will be displayed. Check the line where it says "Packets: Sent = 4, Received = ..". If it says that the "Received = 4 and Lost = 0", you are indeed connected to the internet. If it says "Received = 0, Lost = 4, there is something wrong with the DSL connection and some other form of troubleshooting would have to take place.

Hope this helps!
